Menands chooses new superintendent

Eight-month search yields Maureen Long, currently at Scotia-Glenville

— Coming into a school district that has recently implemented some new policies, including the Common Core learning standards and new teacher evaluation assessments, Long said she feels the district is already on the right path.

“I would like to continue to provide those things and really work with the school and the community,” Long said. “I think they’re in really good shape across the board and are doing a lot of great things already.”

As for budgetary concerns, including limited increases in state aid and a tax levy cap, Long said she’ll continue to work with the board and businesses.

“They’ve done a really good job being cognizant and being responsive to the community,” she said.
