— With a few months to study before the National Bee in May, Ryan said he would use the dictionary he received as a prize and again make a list of all the hard words.

While not preparing for spelling bees, Ryan is interested in mathematics, music and programming. He is currently taking an advanced placement statistics online college course through his school and learning things like tensor calculus on his own. He also said he likes to play violin, guitar and piano and has composed about 15 songs.

As proud parents, Moses and Anita Devanandan said they are happy with Ryan’s recent recognition.

“We don’t have to push him to do anything. He’s driven,” his mother said.
