Guilderland’s proposed budget brings tax decrease

Grimm says budget layout less transparent, Runion argues opposite

— Grimm said the change made Runion’s budget less transparent, with town taxes appearing to be reduced, because one of the biggest cost drivers was broken out.

“You can’t change the definition of the town tax line in order to cut taxes, you have to really do it,” Grimm said.

Runion, however, argued breaking out state retirement costs made the budget more transparent. The proposed 2014 total tax levy adjustment takes into account all property taxes.

“Taxpayers should know what they are paying for and … what is being mandated,” Runion said. “I think that by doing that we are showing the town residents exactly what is driving budgets.”
