Colonie Police urge parents to use their best judgment this Halloween

The Colonie Police Department is asking residents to help keep neighborhoods safe this Halloween. The department issued a release urging parents and guardians to use their best judgment and not transport their kids to other neighborhoods to congregate unsupervised.

In recent years, certain neighborhoods within the town have attracted large crowds from all over the surrounding area.

Last year, a crowd of nearly 300 teenagers gathered on Danielwood Drive in Colonie, terrorizing the residents as they threw eggs, shaving cream and toilet paper. In addition to the vandalism, parents dropping their kids off created a traffic jam on Albany Shaker Road. Police warn that the combination of heavy traffic and a large crowd could be potentially hazardous, especially with the most of the crowd in dark clothing.

The department will be fully staffed to deploy officers as needed to address any issues that should develop.
