Girls basketball: Shaker wins battle of unbeaten teams

Rowland sinks seven three-pointers in victory over Averill Park

Shaker is the lone undefeated girls basketball team left in the Suburban Council following Tuesday's 64-54 home victory against Averill Park.

The Lady Bison (10-0 league, 11-0 overall) out-scored the Warriors 20-12 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the 10-point win. Shaker has now beaten three state-ranked teams in its last three games, having knocked off Bethlehem and Shenendehowa last week.

Merrick Rowland drained seven three-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points for Shaker. Jenni Barra contributed 13 points, while Sierra Mayo and Lyric Artis each added 11 points.

Jenna Miner and Caraline Wood scored 11 points apiece for Averill Park (10-1, 12-1), which was ranked second in the state's Class A poll.
