Spa City police investigate attempted assault

Spotlight Newsroom 10/19/09More articles
Saratoga Springs police are investigating an alleged case of attempted assault against a Skidmore student in the early morning of Saturday, Oct. 17.

Police say the female student hailed a cab at Broadway and Church Street and while on the way to Skidmore, the driver stopped the car in the area of Third Street, exited the vehicle and then reached into the rear passenger seat and grabbed her shoulders. The female fought briefly and was able to flee the scene on foot, police say, and she reported the incident to Skidmore Security who then notified police.

The driver was reported as an older white male with an average build and gray hair. The taxi was described as white and yellow. Police are working with Skidmore Security and the 16 taxi companies registered in Saratoga Springs in an attempt to identify the driver.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Saratoga Springs Police Investigator John Barney, Skidmore Campus Safety or the Saratoga Springs Crime Tip Line at 584-TIPS (584-8477).
