Dance to support families in need.

Sean Ahern 11/20/09More articles
Iroquois Middle School’s Student Council will host their annual “Adopt-A-Family Dance on Friday, Nov. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The dance is a part of a school-wide plan to help families in need this holiday season. Money raised at the event will help families in need with their holiday expenses.

“The students really enjoy helping families in need,” said 7th/8th grade Math teacher and Student Council Co-Advisor Jennifer Toohey. “They understand that some families are not as well off and do not have the means to enjoy the holidays. Our students understand that they enjoy the holidays with their families and they want others to feel the same way.”

Toohey, alongside co-advisor and fellow math teacher Kateri Skinner, have helped the members of the student council work to set up the dance, which has been a long standing event at the middle school as a part of the adopt-a-family initiative.

The Niskayuna Parent Teacher Organization has also helped with the dance, pitching in to pay for some of the DJ fees and members of the club will bring snacks for the students that night.

The program is being held in conjunction with other activities across the three grade levels at Iroquois, including a movie night, bake sales and penny drop contests.

The cost is $5.00 at the door for students to attend and all proceeds will go towards the adopt-a-family foundation.
