Bethlehem board to vote on farmland study

Charles Wiff 11/24/09More articles
The Bethlehem Town Board is expected this evening to vote on the adoption of an Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan that was commissioned in 2008.

The plan identifies areas of agricultural use and outlines various ways to preserve and promote farmland in town. It says population growth will be the chief threat to farmland and open space in general in coming years.

Among recommendations made by the plan are the establishment of a local right to farm law, the formation of an Agricultural Advisory Committee and an examination of zoning.

There will also be a public hearing on the establishment of the 2010 Sewer District Sewer Tax Rolls, as well as motions for personnel changes in the police department.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m., at Bethlehem Town Hall.
