Saratoga Springs Police Officer Joseph Carey was awarded a Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Recognition Award for his DWI enforcement efforts during 2008 at an awards ceremony in Albany on Friday, Nov. 20. Carey made 67 DWI arrests in 2008. MADD volunteer and leader Diane Loomis lost her 17-year-old son to a drunk driver in June 2008 and presented Carey with the award. “All too often police are called to the scene of a tragic traffic crash where alcohol consumption is a factor. In addressing the serious nature of driving while intoxicated by arresting offenders before they are involve d in a crash, Officer Carey demonstrates the commitment the men and women of the Saratoga Springs Police Department have to keeping our community safe,” said Assistant Police Chief Christopher Cole in a release. So far in 2009, Saratoga Springs Police Department has made 276 DWI arrests.
