Spotlight Newspapers 10/07/09More articles
Vincent Gallo had another big game for the Schalmont football team.

The senior quarterback rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead scoring run late in the fourth quarter, to lift the Sabres past Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 13-12 in last Friday’s Class B cross-divisional game in Rotterdam.

Gallo set up the winning touchdown with a 40-yard run deep into R-C-S territory. A short time later, Gallo scored on a four-yard run.

Schalmont (2-0 division 3-2 overall) takes a three-game winning streak into Friday’s West Division game at Cobleskill-Richmondville.

In other weekend football action, Scotia-Glenville solidified its hold on a playoff spot with a 13-6 victory over Mohonasen in last Friday’s Class A Southeast Division game in Rotterdam.

The Mighty Warriors (0-3, 0-5) took a 6-0 lead in the second quarter on Noah Friedman’s 44-yard touchdown run, but the Tartans (2-1, 2-3) answered later in the period. Joe Angley scored on a four-yard run, and Shane Lambert added the extra point to give Scotia-Glenville a 7-6 halftime lead.

Angley added a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Tartans, who face Niskayuna Friday.

Niskayuna (3-0, 4-1) enters Friday’s game on a hot streak of its own after beating Bishop Maginn 27-12 last Friday for its third straight win.

Ryan Alden was the star of the game for the Silver Warriors. He scored the game’s first touchdown on a 14-yard pass from quarterback Kyle Bayly early in the second quarter, and added a four-yard scoring run before halftime to put Niskayuna ahead 14-0.

Alden had an 18-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and a four-yard scoring scamper in the fourth quarter on his way to a 231-yard night for Niskayuna, which remained tied with Troy atop the Southeast Division standings.
