You may have caught our story in the Nov. 9 Spotlight about Spirit, the juvenile bald eagle that was shot Oct. 12 in Columbia County. The dedicated staff at The Animal Hospital in Slingerlands have been closely monitoring Spirit's progress since that day. They've also been updating the public through their Facebook page. The latest update is that Spirit is back in the air soaring around in the hospital's flight cage. The eagle suffered a number of devastating injuries two months ago, including a fractured wing. When I spoke with Drs. Ed and Lexi Becker, they cautioned that progress doesn't always mean a clean bill of health and that complications can always occur. However, the most recent news is good, as Spirit spread his wings and flew around this past weekend. The biggest test now is to see if the eagle can become healthy enough to be released.
