Schalmont seeks community input on superintendent search

As you might already know, Schalmont Central School District will need to find a new superintendent after Valerie Kelsey announced her retirement intentions.

The Schalmont Board of Education has officially begun the search process and announced it would hold two superintendent search community meetings, with the first on Wednesday, June 27, in the middle school LGI at 6 p.m. and the second on Thursday, June 28, again in the LGI at 3 p.m., according to a district email blast sent this afternoon.

Schalmont BOE President Sandra Beloncik and Sam Shevat, a retired district superintendent assisting BOCES with the search process, will be at the meetings to discuss the search process. There will also be small group discussions to address the strengths and challenges facing the district.

The meetings are open to students and parents, staff and district residents give an opportunity to voice what are the most important issues. Input from the sessions will be used to draft questions for interviewing potential candidates. Also, it will allow candidates to understand what are the district's priorities and expectations.

Residents planning to attend a session are encouraged to RSVP online or call the district's communications specialist at 355-9200, ext. 4006, to help with the planning process.

If you can't attend either meeting and want to share your input, an online survey is planned to be made available to the public from June 27 to Aug. 15.
