Free electronic recycling to be offered

Schenectady County residents will be able to recycle old electronic items for free for one day.

The Chamber of Schenectady County and county officials are partnering with Colt Recycling to offer the free service for county businesses and residents. The event will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Colt Refining and Recycling, which is located in the Glenville Technology Park off Route 5.

The following items will be accepted for recycling at no charge:

  • Computers/Laptops
  • Handheld Devices
  • Cell phones
  • Monitors
  • Scanners
  • Back-up Power Supplies
  • Stereo Systems
  • Radios/MP3 Players
  • Microwave Ovens
  • Printers
  • Telephone Systems
  • Televisions (console TVs with wood will require a “nominal fee”)
  • Along with other items

Colt Recycling provides free secure data destruction on all hard drives and storage media. No batteries or light bulbs, items containing mercury or hazardous materials, smoke/carbon detectors, dehumidifiers, paint thinners will be accepted.
