That’s a quick and decisive retort from the 82- year-old owner of the Guy Anatriello Insurance Agency in Ravena when asked about his retirement years.
“Retirement never interested me,” said Guy Anatriello. “When I’m not able to function, I’ll know.”
This is from a guy who not only runs his 54- year-old firm with his daughter, Johna, but who also first became his village’s VFW Commander at the age of 70.
“I visited Florida,” he says wryly. “I’m not into pinochle, bingo, swimming, fishing or golf.”
What he is into is his family and country. With 11 grandchildren who were going through the teen years during the onset of his senior years, “Granddad Guy” donned his baseball cap and became one of the oldest manager’s in the history of the Albany Twilight League.
As for his patriotism, the Naval veteran of the Korean War is active in the VFW, where he is especially passionate about getting younger vets from Afghanistan, Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom involved in taking advantage of the manifold benefits that the VFW offers. Guy also enjoys all of the organization’s ongoing activities, ranging from inspirational and impressive wake and funeral services to Flag Day programs at the public schools and Veteran’s Day ceremonies in the local towns.
But more than anything, he is a veteran of marriage that he frames this way: “Fifty-seven years — and to the same woman!”
