Scarlet Seven Fine Art Gallery – Troy, NY
L’Origine du Monde
In 1866 an Ottoman diplomat commissioned one of the most infamous paintings ever by French artist Gustav Courbet: “L’Origine du Monde – (“The Origin of the World”). To this day the painting has the power to shock and trigger censorship because of the realistic, graphic nudity as subject matter. It pushed the idea of what is romantic, sensual and erotic, to what may be considered pornographic and even immoral.
This exhibit is designed to call into question our sexual morality and the personal boundaries of each viewer. The artists featured in this call have created images that call into question the fine line between romantic, sensual, erotic, and pornographic.
This is an adult only exhibit.
