Juan S. McCray has been arrested by the Scotia Police Department on charges of burglary in the first degree with a dangerous weapon and robbery in the first with a dangerous instrument, at 20 Sunnyside Road, Scotia, at 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, according to police reports.
McCray entered the house through a door, attempting to steal several items from the house including a laptop, a TV, credit cards, purse and a Subaru Forrester. The victim, Mrs. Elisabeth Gelber, 84, confronted McCray. McCray tied the victim up and threatened her with a steak knife. A home health aid came upon Gelber and called the police.
The car was found early this morning in Schenectady and is currently being processed by the New York State Police. McCray was arraigned in Scotia court and was remanded to the Schenectady County Jail with no bail. McCray was on parole at the time of the home invasion.
Gelber sustained head injuries and received emergency surgery that night at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.Further charges are still pending and the investigation is ongoing, according to Scotia Police.
Other agencies assisting in the investigation include the New York State Police, the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office, Schenectady Police Department and the New York State Division of Parole.
