Colonie police are investigating a crash that involved a police patrol unit responding a burglary call this morning.
According to a statement from police, Office Michael Tarbay, 39, was traveling south on New Karner Road, near Consaul Road at close to 7:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
Tabay was responding to the call with lights and sirens when he came up on a Dodge Ram pickup driven by Lorelei Notro, 53, of Schenectady.
`Notro turned left in front of Tarbay as Tarbay attempted to pass her. The officer tried to evade the truck but struck the read end causing it to spin and come to a stop in the driveway of a nearby business.`
The report states the patrol car went off the western edge of the road, and landed in a wooded area at the bottom of an embankment.
Tarbay was brought to Albany Medical Center for injuries to the hands and shoulder, while Notro was taken to Ellis hospital with a shoulder injury.
Route 155, New Karner Road, was closed for nearly an hour in both directions, with help from the Midway Fire Department. Witnesses are asked to call CPD at 783-2744
