The Scotia-Glenville school district will hold a series of budget work sessions, starting tonight, Mar. 1, with a presentation of the superintendent’s budget by Superintendent of Schools Susan Swartz.
Swartz has said that the process has been a difficult one, with a reduction in state aid from $18.2 to $16.7 million, including aid intended for full-day kindergarten. Swartz said that there are reductions and eliminations across the board and that she has worked to preserve programs in the district with an understanding of the economic responsibility.
I think that this has been a very painful process for many people, said Swartz. `However, we have to recognize what our community can support during this economic period.`
The board of education will also meet on March 4, at 7 p.m., at the Scotia-Glenville Middle School to discuss and work on the budget, according to a release from the district.
Swartz will also accompany Schalmont superintendent of schools Valerie Kelsey and Kathleen Spring, Superintendant of the Mohonasen school district, to the capital on Tuesday, Mar. 2, to speak with Senator Farley and Assemblymen Amedore about concerns with state funding to schools.
