The heavy snow during the night of Thursday, Feb. 25, caused the collapse of the roofs of two barns, one in the Town of Knox on Bozenkill Road, and the other in the Town of Berne on Rock Road. The snow also caused a collapse of the roof of a home on Hunt Road in the the Town of Westerlo.
Fortunately, there were no human injuries, said Undersheriff Craig Apple, of the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman who owns the house on Hunt Road left the residence before the roof collapsed, according to police.
Although their were no human injuries as a result of the collapse, two cows in each of the barns were killed as a result of the cave-ins, according to information from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.
`Each barn has a number of heads of cattle lost. It wasn’t as bad as it could have been,` said Apple.
According to Apple, one of the barns housed approximately 80 heads of cattle.
He also said local volunteer fire departments have been a great help in responding to the incidents.
