A University at Albany police officer was injured in a car accident at approximately 6:07 p.m. on Monday, March 8.
According to police, Officer Johanna Fitch, of the SUNY Albany Police Department, was traveling eastbound on Western Ave when the accident occurred. Police said she was returning from a court appearance in Guilderland Town Court in her police cruiser when she was struck by another vehicle that was turning onto Route 20 from Van Wie Terrace.
Police said it appears the driver of the vehicle, Geetha Ravi, of Guilderland, failed to yield the right away.
According to police, Fitch was transported to Albany Medical Center by the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad, and treated for head and neck injuries.
At this point we expect a fill recovery, based on what we were told, said Inspector Aran C. Mull, of the SUNY Albany Police Department.
Ravi did not receive any injuries, police said. Captain Curtis Cox, of the Guilderland Police Department said that Ravi was ticketed for faling to yield the right away, however, no additional charges will be filed.“
