Billy Jack Batease, 29, of 1107 Barrett St., Schenectady was arrested by Glenville police on charges of robbery in the second degree, assault in the second degree, two counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree, criminal mischief in the second and burglary in the third degree, resisting arrest, criminal trespassing in the third degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree and assault in the third degree at Ellis Hospital after a strong armed robbery starting on Freemans Bridge Road and ending at Schenectady County Airport, according to a March 10 release from the department.
According to police reports, Batease is accused of forcibly stealing a cell phone from a victim who has stopped on the road to avoid striking him. Batease allegedly struck the victim in the face and stole his phone. Glenville police arrived on the scene and watched Batease run northeast towards the Schenectady County Airport.
Glenville police, with assistance from Scotia police and the Schenectady County Sheriff K9 unit, were setting up a perimeter when they were contacted by the airport tower that an unidentified vehicle was on the main runway of the airport. Police responded to the runway to find Batease in operation of a pick up truck belonging to Stratton Air National Guard. Batease eventually stopped the truck but refused to exit the vehicle.
When he did exit the vehicle, Batease charged the officers, forcing them to use a taser. According to reports, while officers were taking him into custody, Batease bit Lt. Richard Conley on the wrist, breaking the skin.
Batease was transported to Ellis Hospital for treatment and was transported to the Glenville Police Department after being dischared from the ER. He was arraigned in Glenville Town Court and remanded to Schenectady County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in town court at a later date, according to police reports.`
