Dave Harper, the former assistant district attorney for Saratoga County, announced on Friday, March 19, he was officially dropping out of the race for 20th Congressional District. He is reportedly leaning toward endorsing Chris Gibson, the former army officer from Kinderhook.
Gibson had won republican endorsements from Saratoga Springs, Wilton and Mechanicville but said since Gibson himself had already secured `about 80 percent` of Saratoga County, he seemed to have a message with an impact.
`Dave Harper is a great man of integrity,` said Gibson in a release. `We are deeply appreciative and respectful of his contributions to this race. He has had a long and distinguished career as a public servant in Saratoga and the greater Capitol District area … He was an admirable competitor during this nomination process. I was honored by his call this morning. He deserves our utmost respect for the type of positive campaign he ran.`
With Harper out of the running, Gibson must still secure the Republican endorsement above Dave Stec and Patrick Ziegler.
