A one car crash in Wilton resulted in one person dead and seriously injured another on Friday, Feb. 25, according to State Police reports.
According to police reports, around 8:26 p.m. Feb. 25, a 2003 Ford traveling southbound on State Route 9 and driven by Crystal L. Harrington, 21, of South Glens Falls, ran off the west side of the highway, struck a snow embankment, turned over on its side, struck a utility pole and landed on the roof. Harrington was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, Michelle A. Cottrell, 21, of Ballston Spa, was also partially ejected and had to be extricated the rest of the way out of the vehicle by the Wilton Fire Department and was then transported to Saratoga Hospital with a broken neck.
According to police, neither woman was wearing a seatbelt, which is thought to be the cause of the partial ejection.
The crash is still under investigation but police said it appears that speed and a slippery road conditions are factors in the cause of the crash.
