Quintin Bullock, president of Schenectady County Community College, was selected as one of this year’s National TRIO Achievers.
The Council for Opportunity in Education presented Bullock with the award on Tuesday, Sept. 27, during the Annual Educational Opportunity Dinner as part of the council’s 30th Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
Six individuals from across the country earn the TRIO Achiever Award each year. Bullock was chosen as a recipient from among 50 nominees by a committee comprised of members of the Board of Directors of the Council for Opportunity in Education, all of who are TRIO professionals from around the country.
The TRIO Achiever Awards are presented to former TRIO project participants of high stature within their profession who have made significant civic, community or professional contributions, among other criteria.
TRIO is a set of federally funded college opportunity programs aimed at motivating and supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of a college degree. SCCC’s TRIO program provides services including tutoring, counseling, assistance with transferring to four-year colleges, resources for students with disabilities and mentoring.
