COLONIE — Ground is broken on Blessings Tavern II. The neighborhood watering hole was destroyed by fire in October 2016, after a car crashed into the side of the building.
The Town gave Blessings Tavern’s owner Elizabeth Bennett Altrock the go ahead to rebuild in June and she has been working towards that goal ever since.
On Facebook recently, she posted photos of excavating equipment at the site located at the intersection of Watervliet and Consaul roads with the caption “It has started.”
There was a construction crew building forms for the footings working there on Friday, Oct. 26.
Altrock could not be reached for comment in time for this story.
The bar was destroyed when a car driven by Michael Carr slammed into vehicle parked in the lot outside Blessings.
Carr’s passenger, 16-year-old Niko DiNovo, suffered burns over 95 percent of his body and died 508 days later at the Westchester Hospital Burn Unit.
Carr was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to driving under the influence and pleading guilty to felony assault. He was sentenced prior to DiNovo’s death.
