The Crossing Concert Series is set to kick off Thursday July 11, and before the music starts at 6 p.m., the town will dedicate the gazebo to Joe Vellano, the man who founded the series in 2007.
“There are almost no words to express our great appreciation for all Joe Vellano did for this town through his wonderful concert series,” said Supervisor Paula Mahan. “His passing is a great loss to us all, but his legacy will live on as these concerts continue in a space that honors his musical contributions and bears his name.”
The former president of Vellano Brothers, Inc., he was also an avid baseball fan and was president of two St. Louis Cardinals Minor League teams, a baseball scout for the Cleveland Indians, and past president of the local chapter of the Society of Baseball Researchers.
Now sponsored by Anjo Construction, the concert series continues this year with a line-up that once again promises something for everyone.
Each concert will feature a designated food vendor as well as Italian ices from Penny Lane Ices and lemonade from Lemon Busters.
In addition, the town’s EMS Department will offer free hands-on only CPR training before the concerts from 5 to 6 p.m. as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthen the “chain of survival” in cases of cardiac arrest through free community education.
