COLONIE — The last piece of the Skylane Motel on Central Avenue is slated to be knocked down on Wednesday, March 11.
There is a large back hoe with “DiTonno” written on the arm sitting behind what’s left of the motel that sits adjacent to a brand new O’Reilly’s Auto Parts all set to go.
Demolition is supposed to start at 8 a.m.
The Skylane, and the now razed Blu-Bell Motel, have been a thorn in the town’s side since at least 2014. The owner, Alex Patell, was cited hundreds of times for health and safety codes and police were called to the two hotels on a regular basis.
In March, 2015, Patell agreed to a settlement with the town that required the demolition of both properties within three months. A year later, Patell agreed to demolish the Blu-Bell in exchange for excusing more than $750,000 in fines.
The majority of the Skylane, the actual rooms, was demolished in March, 2016. The last remaining section appears to be where the manager’s office was located and that should be down by noon.
