A woman called Bethlehem police Thursday morning, Nov. 20, after waking up to find her home was apparently broken into while she slept, with her debit card and $20 cash allegedly taken from her purse.
The victim claimed her purse had been moved overnight from a closet door to a couch in her home. She then noticed her debit card and cash was missing from her wallet, according to police.
Her kitchen window was allegedly unlocked and the screen was open, along with the window locks being broken. She told police she locked all the windows and doors before going to bed at 9 p.m. She woke up around 3:45 a.m.
She checked her bank account and allegedly found $202 had been withdrawn at 3:16 a.m. that morning from an ATM at the Valero gas station at 594 Delaware Ave. The victim claimed there was only one other person that knew the card’s pin number to access funds, which was Anthony M. Hill, of 543 Delaware Ave. Apt. 3 in Delmar.
Police interviewed the night manager at the gas station who confirmed Hill had withdrawn money from the stores ATM between 2:40 to 3:15 a.m. that morning. The manager said Hill also purchased two Mike’s Hard Lemonades with a $20 bill and left in a car with a woman driving.
The victim had a stay away order of protection against Hill.
Bethlehem police arrested Hill, around 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 20 and charged him with burglary in the second degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree, both felonies, three counts of criminal contempt in the second degree, two counts of criminal mischief in the fourth degree and two counts of petit larceny.
