Bethlehem police arrested a Romanian man for unlawfully attaching a skimming device to a Trustco Bank ATM in Delmar. On Monday, October 19, Ili Sitariu, 36, of Romania allegedly attached a skimming device to the ATM.
Once attached, the skimming device was able to capture credit card information of patrons and multiple unauthorized withdrawals were reportedly made.
Sitariu was charged with two felony counts of scheme to defraud in the first degree and one misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of a skimming device.
Bethlehem police investigations led to Sitariu’s arrest after State Police arrested him in Columbia County later that month for a similar incident.
This case was investigated jointly by the Bethlehem Police Department, New York State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Albany and Trustco Bank personnel.
Anyone who used this ATM between Oct. 18 and 19, and believes their credit card was compromised should contact their financial institution and their local police agency.
