VOORHEESVILLE — The Voorheesville boys basketball team started strong and fended off several challenges to defeat Ichabod Crane 66-55 in a Colonial Council game Friday, Jan. 13.
The Blackbirds (11-2), ranked 11th in the latest New York State Sportswriters Association Class B poll, jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first quarter and entered halftime with a 31-23 lead. Ichabod Crane (11-3) trimmed Voorheesville’s advantage to as little as two points in the second half, but key baskets from Sean Nolan and Matt Bernhard down the stretch helped the Blackbirds pull away at the end.
Nolan finished with 22 points, while Bernhard contributed 19 points for Voorheesville. Peter Volkmann led Ichabod Crane with 24 points, and Austin Valliere added 15 points.
