BETHLEHEM – Colonie travelled across Albany County and shut out the home team Eagles 14-0 in the Suburban Council season opener for both football squads.
Colonie (1-0) got on the board first with a 56-yard pass on third and long from quarterback Shai Young to Xavier Washington in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, after Bethlehem picked off a pass, Colonie’s Marcus Gibson forced a fumble and Josh Kemp recovered in the end zone for the game’s second and final score. Mike Lavigna nailed both extra points for the Raiders.
Bethlehem (0-1) threatened in the third quarter with the a first and goal inside the five, but the Colonie defense made an impressive goal line stand that included a sack and took over on downs.
On Friday, Sept. 8, Colonie will host Schenectady and Bethlehem will play at Shaker.
