COLONIE – The Garnet Raiders softball team won its first Suburban Council game of the season by scoring three runs in the bottom of the last.
Bethlehem had a 3-2 lead after four, and then saw Colonie score five runs in the fifth. In the top half of the sixth, though, Bethlehem came back with six runs of its own to take a two-run lead into the seventh.
Colonie loaded the bases with nobody out and pitcher Bethlehem pitcher Aurora Lagace walked in a run. A questionable call at the plate tied it up at eight each and then Chloe VanBuren hit a sacrifice fly to right bringing home Darianna Resciniti for the 9-8 win.
For Colonie, Cianna Phillips went two for three with a double and three runs scored, Sarah Baluch went two for four with a double and a run scored, Myaisha Kelly went two for three with two doubles and two runs scored and Shealynn Peckowitz went one for three with a triple.
For the Eagles, Megan O’Keefe went three for three with a double and two runs scored, Aria Losee went two for four with a run scored, Julia Rupinski went one for three with a run scored, Jenna Nimmer went one for four, Abby Campbell went one for three with a run scored and Lagace went one for two with a run scored.
On the mound for Colonie, Peckowitz gave up eight runs on nine hits while walking nine and striking out one. Lagace gave up nine runs on 10 hits while walking five and striking out two.
Colonie will play at Guilderland on Thursday, April 5 and Bethlehem will host Schenectady on Friday, April 6.
