Shaker’s Ronel Forde eased past the field in the boys triple jump at the Section 2 Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 25 and 26 at the University at Albany’s SEFCU Arena. Forde leaped 46 feet, 4.25 inches to earn a berth to the state meet March 7 at Cornell University in Ithaca. Shenendehowa’s Joe Osaheni was second with a distance of 43 feet, 11.75 inches, and Amsterdam’s Omahri Sturdivant finished third with a distance of 43 feet, 7 inches. Colonie’s Jake Johnson also earned an individual title at Sectionals. The junior passed Shen’s Collin Rowe to win the boys 1,000-meter race with a time of 2:35.05. Rowe placed second with a time of 2:35.14. Shaker’s Thomas Hale and Paul Nichols each had third-place performances. Hale was third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:33.90, while Nichols finished third in the 3,200-meter race with a time of 9:48.09. Watervliet’s Nino Gagliardi (55-meter dash), Shaker’s Matthew JeanPierre (600-meter race) and Colonie’s Devin Olander (55-meter high hurdles) had fifth-place finishes in their races. Shaker’s Cole Nestler tied South Glens Falls’ Jarret Pidgeon for fifth place in the pole vault, and CBA’s Kevin LaFleche finished sixth in the 600-meter race. On the girls’ side, Colonie’s Meaghan Podlaski won the 1,500-meter race walk with a time of 6:36.51. Ichabod Crane’s Sagan Leggett was second with a time of 7:49.82. Colonie’s 1,600-meter relay team of Mikeisha Kelly, Ronke Osipitan, Kirsten Kaminski and Allyson Oertel came close to winning their event. The Lady Raiders finished second with a time of 4:06.56 — .34 seconds off the winning pace set by Saratoga Springs. Colonie’s 3,200-meter relay team placed third with a time of 10:14.17, while Shaker’s Nia Joyner finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 8 inches. Shaker’s Shannon Lavender was fifth in the 600-meter race with a time of 1:42.20, and Colonie’s Amanda Chambers took sixth place in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:56.89.
