The Shaker boys swim team remained undefeated by edging Shenendehowa 95-91 in a Suburban Council meet Thursday, Jan. 28, in Latham.
The Blue Bison built a 79-61 lead after winning the 200-yard freestyle relay, and then fended off a late surge by the Plainsmen to take sole possession of first place in the league.
William Matz won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly to lead Shaker. George Enright (200-yard freestyle) and Zeeshan Irani (50-yard freestyle) also won individual events.
Luke Gordon led Shen with victories in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke.
In other Suburban Council action, Bethlehem defeated Niskayuna 96-88 in Delmar. The Eagles built a 20-point lead going into the final event of the meet to pull off their first win over the Silver Warriors in six years.
Alex Taber (200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke), Brendan Cartwright (50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle) and Connor Doyle (200-yard individual medley, 100-yard breaststroke) all won a pair of events for Bethlehem. Jacob Rosenblum added a victory in the 500-yard freestyle.
Jack Newton (diving) and Ethan Bachert (100-yard butterfly) posted victories for Niskayuna.
Saratoga Springs pulled away for a 96-87 victory over Guilderland-Voorheesville in Voorheesville. The meet was close until the 400-yard freestyle relay, when Saratoga placed its three relay teams first, third and fourth to collect 10 points. Guilderville’s two relay teams finished second and fifth for a total of four points.
Zach Zwijacz won the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke for Saratoga. Ethan Morrison (diving) and Nate Marron (100-yard backstroke) also earned individual victories.
Joseph Gravino led Guilderville with first-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle. Michael Ardito (200-yard freestyle), Daniel Zhu (50-yard freestyle) and Jeremy Collison (100-yard butterfly) also recorded wins.
