TROY — The Tri-City ValleyCats celebrated Christmas in July by defeating the Connecticut Tigers 2-0 Thursday, July 14, in a New York-Penn League game at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
Ronnie Dawson cranked a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to provide all the runs the ValleyCats (14-13) needed to get back over the .500 mark. Three Tri-City pitchers combined on the shutout, with Enrique Chavez picking up the win after pitching the final four innings.
A large and festive crowd greeted the ValleyCats in their first home game in a week.
