COLONIE — The Albany Dutchmen gave up seven runs in the second inning and dropped a home game to the Saugerties Stallions 9-5 in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League matchup on Thursday, June 27.
The loss drops the Dutchmen into a tie for third with the Stallions in the East Division.
The Dutchmen scored first and had a 1-0 lead after one, but they did not cross home plate again until the eighth inning.
Starter Ian Murphy, of St. John’s, struck out the side in the first but walked four batters, hit a batter and gave up three hits in the second. Through two innings he gave up seven runs, six earned, and he took the loss for the Dutchmen.
Brandon Roberts, of St. John Fisher, and Ryan Greco, of Brockport, finished out the remaining 6.1 innings and allowed two runs.
Justin Bench, of Ole Miss, went 2 for 4 with two runs scored for the Dutch while Nick Melillo, of Siena, went 2 for 4 with a run scored and Mitchell Henshaw, of St. John’s, went 1-3 with an RBI.
For the Stallions, Mitchell Sanford, of LSU, went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Blake Crossing, of Dartmouth, went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
The Dutchmen will play at Amsterdam against the first place Mohawks on Friday, June 28 and then will host the Mohawks on Saturday, June 29.
