ALBANY — The City of Albany and St. Peter’s Health Partners are recognizing the compassionate moms of the Capital District in the 20th Annual Mother of the Year Contest.
The contest celebrates mothers who are committed to their families and communities while serving as positive role models and touching the lives of those around them.
Dozens of mothers were nominated this year. Every nominee deserves congratulations. As some of the Capital District’s most remarkable women, their love and devotion is appreciated by many.
The five finalists are Joan Duffey of Watervliet, nominated by her son, Kevin Duffey; Joanne Joseph of Ballston Spa, nominated by her daughter Alison Joseph; Harriet Lovelady of Albany, nominated by her daughter Linda McNeal; June MacClelland of Wilton, nominated by her friend Nicole Fortier and Kathleen Shaw of Cohoes, nominated by her daughter Savannah Jones.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, the Tulip Queen and her Court will greet the five finalists on the Park Lakehouse Stage in Washington Park on, Sunday May 13, at Tulip Festival. The ceremony will take place at noon when the Mother of the Year will be crowned.
All five finalists will receive a gift basket of prizes as well as flowers from Ambiance Florals and Events.
The 20th Annual Mother of the Year Contest is presented by St. Peter’s Health Partners and sponsored by the City of Albany, Upstate and Women@Work magazine, B95.5 radio and The Times Union.
