BETHLEHEM—Former Town Board member George Lenhardt died on Wednesday, June 27, following a long illness.
Lenhardt, who served for 12 years on the Town Board and on the Planning Board prior to that, was a well known and much respected public servant. He graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in 1965.
“I will miss him. I think the whole community will miss George,” said former Town Board member Doris Davis. Davis served with Lenhardt on both boards and the two formed a friendship. “He was a real civil servant. He was smart, he had a dry sense of humor and he was just an all around really nice man. And the community was really important to him.”
According to Davis, Lenhardt always came to meetings prepared with all the background information necessary to address the various issues concerning the town and its residents. “I had a lot of respect for him,” Davis said with emotion. “I still do. I always will.”
Visitation hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, at Applebee Funeral Home at 403 Kenwood Ave. in Delmar and a mass will be held at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 35 Adams Place in Delmar, at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 7.
Lenhardt is survived by his wife, Lynne, and their children Brian and Kimberly.
