DELMAR — A local couple has reunited with their cat, Roger, on Wednesday, Jan. 8 after he went missing for almost two weeks.
Roger, 13, returned to Chris and Erin’s, who requested to not disclose their last names, doorstep at their Delmar house at around 7 a.m. that morning. Chris said prior to his return, “We had left [Roger’s] litter tray, a sleeping basket, some dry food and a can of tuna out there and that morning, we went to call out for him as usual. Then, we saw that all the biscuits and tuna were eaten. Two minutes after calling him, he finally came and it seemed like he’d found the food and his familiar spot again.”
Roger is described as an orange domestic Shorthair male cat with green eyes and according to his missing flyer that had circulated around town, he is friendly and vocal but a bit nervous around strangers.
Roger disappeared sometime after 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27 near Darroch Road and Roweland Avenue. Chris had said that Roger likes being outdoors and brought up that he and Erin had just moved into their Delmar home two weeks before Roger disappeared. When Roger vanished, the couple then went around town with missing flyers and leaflets, as well as contacted the Bethlehem Police Department and Animal Control.
When Roger showed up at the couple’s doorstep, Chris said, “He has lost a couple of pounds but he is absolutely fine. He seems healthy although he looked a little bit dirtier than usual. It was 12 long nights and it now feels great and tremendous that he’s back.”
Chris theorized that on the night of his disappearance, Roger left the house to perhaps explore the surrounding area but got lost or stuck somewhere.
Looking ahead, he added, “We’ll get Roger a chip and a GPS collar and he’s not the kind of cat who will always stay in. We have a big backyard and Delmar seems pretty open with no fences on properties. You can’t really prevent your cat from wandering.” He also said that he appreciates how there is little vehicular traffic in their neighborhood.
Chris also expressed gratitude to his neighbors and other town residents for trying to help the situation, bringing up how some people allegedly saw Roger roaming around the neighborhood during the time he went missing.
Roger that.
