COLONIE – It was a rough start for the Shaker/Colonie hockey team.
The Jets dropped a 3-2 overtime decision against Cortland-Homer in the opening round of the Shaker/Colonie Thanksgiving Tournament Friday, Nov. 25, at the Albany County Hockey Facility.
Tyler Wilson’s goal less than five minutes into the third period gave Shaker/Colonie a 2-1 lead, only to see Cortland-Homer score the tying goal with 8:30 left. Trevor Jubran tallied on a power play with 2:57 left in the five-minute overtime period to give Cortland-Homer the victory.
Goaltender Dan Molloy made 41 saves to keep Shaker/Colonie in the game.
The Jets’ assignment was tougher in the second round Saturday, Nov. 26, as they faced defending state champion Mamaroneck. The Section 1 power wasted little time, as the Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on their way to a 6-0 victory.
Michael Carducci recorded a hat trick to lead Mamaroneck’s offense, while goaltender Andrew Gargiulo needed to make only 10 saves to record the shutout. Molloy and Ali Caruso combined to stop 35 shots for Shaker/Colonie.
