COLONIE – A 62-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stealing more than $28,000 from an acquaintance of hers.
According to Lt. Robert Winn, the woman, Marla Kellert, of 2 Ross Court, had access to her friend’s home on Old Niskayuna Road because she was watching the owner’s dogs.
On Feb. 14, the homeowner found the money missing. On Feb. 15, police executed a search warrant at Kellert’s home and found she spent some of the money on jewelry and appliance parts and that she made deposits into her checking account. They also found a portion of the money.
The investigation uncovered the jewelry was reported stolen in 2011 in Guilderland.
Kellert turned herself in on Feb. 21 to face the felonies of burglary and grand larceny. Charges for possessing the stolen jewelry are pending.
She was arraigned in Colonie Town Court.
