COLONIE – A 20-year-old Scotia man was arrested on Monday, July 22 for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
According to Det. Sgt. George Thomaides, the investigation began on Friday, July 19 when the victim’s family came to Colonie police.
He said police believe the victim met Malakhai McCommons through an online social network.
The alleged assault occurred at a hotel in the town. Also, a search warrant was executed at McCommons’ Scotia home and additional evidence was seized, Thomaides said.
Colonie police were assisted by the FBI and State Police.
McCommons was arraigned in Colonie Town Court on the felonies of first degree rape and predatory sexual assault against a child. He was sent to the Albany County jail without bail. He is next due in court on Wednesday, July 24.
